Cal Hardin (on the right) |
Yesterday Avondale hosted the golf & luncheon for Cal Hardin's retirement party. For those who do not know who Cal is ... well he is the superintendent that built Avondale Golf Club (aka Del Safari) back in 1969. Both events we a overwhelming success and the superintendent of several of the golf course in the Valley and beyond could not say enough good things about the golf course and the F&B team. Excellent job goes to my team and Andrew's team.

4's Front Left Bunker - Slopes Towards Lip Now |
Today we will be verticutting the greens in the continual quest to convert back to the bermudagrass. Additionally, we will be starting on 4 first shaping the problematic front left green and removing the back green. These areas will be considered GUR until we are finished after we start. We will rope them off and once the ropes are removed we will be finished.

Bottom Half Has Been Trimmed |
|
Top Half Will Be Trimmed Today |
The trimming of the oleanders will continue today and for the remainder of the week. They should be finished with the outside along El Dorado today or tomorrow morning and then will start working on the inside of the fence along holes 2 and 11.
Starting next week the rough aerification will begin. Our goal is to immediately chop the plugs using a rough unit to lessen the impact to our members. Also we will be starting to use the triplex to mow the greens soon.
Every morning we have to clear the fairways of debris thanks to our wonderful trees. They are great for the look of Avondale, provide excellent shade, but sadly they are very dirty. We are currently able to address this debris issue first thing, but soon with all of the projects and general summer maintenance we will have to wait until later in the day to address.
